Superman Vs Aliens Comic Book
In my opinion, America is in the midst of a golden age of graphic novels. Graphic novels in the comic book industry have come a long way in the last 10-20 years, as anyone who has attended a ComicCon convention lately knows perfectly well. This bizarre crossover event, Superman vs Aliens, has somehow stood the test of time and is still as relevant in 2015 as it must have been in 1995 when it was first published. It remains a thought provoking story from beginning to end pitting the brawn of Superman and the survival instincts of Kara Zor-El against the nightmare-inducing Aliens of H.R. Giger. This work was definitely ahead of its time in 1995 and I enjoyed it because as I read it I envisaged so many different story arcs that might be expanded upon. It definitely fired up my overactive imagination mainly because Superman was confronted with several problems and moral dilemmas he has not hitherto faced. This is a great example of a movie that should have been made! There are, however, a few things that I didn't like about this book. The artwork was at times excellent and other times lackluster. It almost seemed the illustrator became tired are hurriedly finished many of his panels at several locations in the novel. Another minor quibble I have is with Supermans varying state of undress in the story arc. Every conflict between Kal-El and the Aliens invariably meant another sleeve, boot, or legging was shorn off in a scuffle. By the end of our story, a shirtless Superman was basically fighting Aliens in his little more than his Kryptonian underwear--a tad silly in my opinion. His hair was rather different too. What sort of pseudo-mullet was the man of steel sporting in 1995 anyway? Supermans sense of right and wrong, his unshakable faith in humanity, and his dedication to preserve life at any cost added an interesting dimension to this story. Will Supermans first encounter with the deadly Aliens on Argo City affect his future moral code of conduct? We'd better hope so, since Superman may be the only weapon at humanity's disposal in a global conflict with Aliens that seems predestined to happen. This is a very well written story, although at times the plot seems to go forward too quickly to allow for adequate character development. In essence,I feel this work should have been at least twice as long as it actually was in order to tell a better story. Nevertheless, I strongly recommend this book/product to all Superman fans. Fair Warning: There may not be enough suspense or gore for fans of the Alien franchise.
